!MkAdresBk
by Graham Campbell - January 1997 - gdc@argonet.co.uk
-----------------------------------------------------
This is an application for making an address file for the
e_mail side of things in !Voyager from a simple text_file
(made perhaps in !Edit) containing your contacts' names and addresses.
I find that making a text file of addresses is much more
flexible and multi-usable than typing in the addresses to
the address-book in Voyager where they are stored as a
BASIC Data_File and so pretty much un-usable in other
contexts.
The file format of the Text_File is crucial, of course.
Just make it as follows -
Peter Smith
psmith@service_provider.co.uk
Sam Snodgrass
sam@service-provider.co.uk
Jimmy Jones
jj@service.com
etc. etc.
Just make sure to press RETURN once after the last address.
Save this file somewhere.
Double click on !MkAdresBk.
The icon appears on the left of the icon bar.
Drag your text_file on to the icon.
The file called Addresses is created, leaving your original file
intact and a window opens the !PostyUser directory in !Voyager, reader for
you to transfer the Addresses file into.
PLEASE NOTE that you will then OVERWRITE and lose forever any pre-existing
Addresses file you make painstakingly have typed!
Therefore - RENAME the older file by placing a ZERO on the end to make it
Addresses0.
That way, it will be preserved.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Using this text-file method, you can keep Text_files called, for example :
Friends
Business
MusicGroup
FootyClub
etc
etc
The reason for this is that I have written another similar application which
allows you to make Distribution Lists to place within your main Address Bk,
again producing these from your TextFiles.
See my application - !MkDistLst.
